Irene S. Stemple, 87, passed away on Sunday, January 9, 2022.

Irene was born on February 28, 1934 to Mildred and John Shnurer. She met her husband Norman Stemple at Penn State, where they both received a Master’s Degree in Physics.  In 1957 they were married in the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, with her father, Rev. John Shnurer officiating.  Together they had five children born at three different hospitals, each within view of the Hudson River.  They moved to Forth Worth in 1967 for Norman to get his PhD from TCU.   Irene feel in love with Texas and persuaded Norm to keep the family in Fort Worth.  Irene soon took a Saturday morning position teaching science at the Children’s Museum, now the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History.   As the children got older, Irene increased her part-time work, teaching at Country Day School, TCJC and TCU.  Her lifetime passion was rockhounding and she started collecting when quite young.  In Texas, fossils became her focus. She was a 50+ year member of the Fort Worth Gem and Mineral Club and a founding member of the Dallas Paleontological Society.
