September 18, 1929 - March 19, 2018
A private family service was conducted at Thompson’s Harveson and Cole Funeral Home on March 20, 2018, the Chaplain Mark Rogers officiating.
Memorials: Consideration of contributions to the Early Education Center First Presbyterian Church, 1000 Penn Street, Fort Worth, TX 76102 is suggested. Joyce came from a family of teachers, and her time with her daughter, Julie Hannan, teaching pre-school at First Presbyterian was cherished.
Joyce Arlene Koeneke McNey passed away peacefully on March 19, 2018, in the company of family and the caring staff of Sunrise Assisted Living.
Born September 18, 1929, in Brighton Colorado, to Rudy Koeneke and Lillie Jung Koeneke, Joyce dearly loved Colorado and her two older brothers Orville and Allen. She attended Colorado State College in Greely, Colorado, and began her elementary education teaching career in Denver.
She married John William McNey III on June 21, 1952, originally meeting on a blind date. John predeceased her on March 3, 2003.
Joyce and John retired in Fort Worth in 1986 to be close to their beloved grandchildren, Megan Kelli, Katy and John. Sporting events, dance recitals, dinner at Joe T’s, impromptu lunches with niece, Margaret Cook, family gatherings and mischief consumed their Golden Years. A child of the Great Depression and a staunch Lutheran to the end, she will be greatly missed.
Joyce is survived by brother, Allen Koeneke of Carbondale, Colorado; her children, John W. McNey IV and his wife, Brynda, and Julie McNey Hannan and her husband, Robert, all of Fort Worth, James Michael McNey and his wife, Lauri of Kansas City; grandchildren, John William McNey V, Katy McNey, Kelli Hannan and Megan Hannan, and numerous nieces and nephews and their families.
