Linda Jo Westbrook Oakes, 66, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 10, 2017, after battling multiple sclerosis and cancer for many years.
Linda was born February 6, 1951 to Bobby and Wanda Westbrook in Waxahachie, Texas. After graduating from Waxahachie High School, she attended both The University of Texas at Arlington and Texas Christian University in Fort Worth. Linda also had a private pilot license. She spent several years working as an executive secretary at Harris Hospital in Fort Worth. There she met Dr. Rolland F. Oakes in the radiology department. He took notice of her from the very beginning, and the rest is history. She later worked as the assistant business manager at Casa Manana Theatre for over a decade, where she made many life-long friends.
Linda was a devout Roman Catholic and served the Lord and his church at Saint Patrick Cathedral. Having an enduring passion for music, she also performed with the Saint Patrick Cathedral Choir for almost 17 years. Linda touched so many lives with her compassion and generosity; she had the most infectious laugh; and was an enthusiastic conversationalist. She was so very loved and will be deeply missed.
Linda was welcomed into heaven by her brother, Donnie Westbrook; aunt and uncle, Martha “Bunkie” and Nolan Westbrook; uncle, Giles Edwards; cousin, Jeff Griffin; Don Thompson (husband of Luzon); Russ Boswell (husband of Stephanie); her grandparents and many aunts, uncles, cousins, family, and friends.
She is survived by the love of her life and husband of almost 40 years, Rolland Oakes; parents Bobby and Wanda Westbrook; sister Laurie Jeffry and husband Tony, and their children Aubrie and Avery; aunt, Glenda Edwards; aunt and uncle, Janis and Darrell Almand; cousins Jane, Julie, Amy, and Anna; Rolland’s children, Tim Oakes and wife “Q”, Luzon Thompson, and Stephanie Boswell; grandchildren, Kelly Newman and husband Lou, Curtis Boswell and wife Heather, Matt Boswell, and Skylar Boswell; 8 great-grandchildren; and many loved ones.
