William “Bill” Boomer passed away Sunday, September 2, 2018.
Bill was born in Fort Worth, TX on April 19th, 1949 to Jesse Lee and Virginia Gordy Boomer. Bill attended Paschal High School and graduated from the University of Texas at Arlington with a degree in Civil Engineering.
Bill began his career at Gordon Swift Engineering before opening his own Engineering office, LandCon Inc, in 1985. He eventually sold LandCon and established Civil Solutions Engineering Firm. His business led him to spend time before the Planning and Zoning Commission, and City Council of Fort Worth and neighboring cities. He and his business partner owned and operated numerous rural water delivery systems in and around Fort Worth.
Bill was a Texas State Licensed Professional Engineer and Land Surveyor. In his youth, Bill was a member of the Boy Scouts of America and obtained the rank of Eagle Scout. He continued serving in scouting as an Assistant Scout Master for Troop 40 in the Longhorn Council. He completed two treks at Philmont Scout Ranch, once as a teen and again as an adult with his son.
He was a member of the American Society of Civil Engineering, the Texas Society of Professional Engineers and the American Water Works Association. Recently he was an active volunteer for Dispute Resolution Services of North Texas. He was an active member of Rotary and had served as President of Rotary of Fort Worth South. Bill was named Rotarian of the Year in 2017-2018.
Bill married his wife of 45 years, Kathy Lay, on June 16th, 1973. They settled in southwest Fort Worth and during their marriage they had two children, Andrew and Kathlyn. They have lived in Fort Worth all their lives.
Genesis United Methodist Church was very important in Bill’s life and he and Kathy were charter members. He held many positions within the church, including serving twice as Chairman of Trustees and Chairman of Finance. Bill also served as Head of the Building Committee during two church expansions, served on various other committees and participated in regular church activities.
Bill dearly loved his family and he gave his time, expertise and love to anyone needing assistance. He had a wonderful sense of humor and loved sharing in laughter with others. He enjoyed spending time with his three grandsons who knew him as “Admiral”. As he neared retirement, he and Kathy loved to travel and visited many countries all over the world.
Bill is survived by his wife, Kathy; his son and daughter in law, Andrew and Megan Boomer; his daughter, Kathlyn Morris; three grandsons, Gus Boomer, Jackson Morris and Alex Morris; his sister and brother in law, Edna and Don Tolsdorf; his brother, John Boomer; and various nieces, nephews and cousins.
