Martin Thompson
President & Funeral Director

Martin Thompson has dedicated his life to serving families in Fort Worth for nearly 50 years. Born and raised here, he grew up watching his father, Guy Thompson, set a high standard as one of the city’s most respected funeral directors. That example shaped Martin’s path and continues to guide his work today.

Martin began his career on January 1, 1976, at Thompson’s Harveson & Cole Funeral Home, a Fort Worth tradition since 1911, where he spent more than two decades serving families alongside his father and built the foundation for his lifelong calling. Over the years, Martin has also led funeral homes in Grapevine, Keller, and Mansfield, giving him a wide breadth of experience across Tarrant County.

In 2012, Martin and his son Jon opened Martin Thompson & Son Funeral Home, designed to provide families with meaningful, affordable alternatives to traditional arrangements. Today, alongside his wife Janice, son Jon, and daughter-in-law Brittany, Martin serves families at both locations, continuing to honor Fort Worth’s rich traditions while embracing the community’s changing needs.

Now celebrating his 50th year in funeral service, Martin remains committed to the same principles that drew him into the profession—compassion, integrity, and community. He considers it both a privilege and a calling to help families tell the story of someone they love. Outside of his work, he enjoys playing golf, spending time with his animals, giving back to the community, and being with his family.

A Fort Worth native, Jon Thompson has been immersed in funeral service from a young age, inspired by the example of his grandfather, the late Guy Thompson of Thompson’s Harveson & Cole, and his father, Martin Thompson. Their guidance instilled in him a lifelong respect for the profession and a deep commitment to serving families with compassion.

Jon pursued his passion by earning his Mortuary Science degree from Amarillo College, becoming a licensed funeral director in the State of Texas. For more than 21 years, he has walked alongside families in their time of need, helping them create meaningful services that honor the lives of their loved ones with dignity, care, and respect.

As Managing Funeral Director, Jon carries forward his family’s legacy while providing personal attention to every family he serves. Together, they share the same calling: to walk beside families with compassion and guidance during life’s most difficult moments.

Jon’s dedication to excellence reflects the Thompson Difference: a tradition of family, compassion, and service that guides every interaction and every detail. Families can trust that when they come to Thompson, they are cared for like one of their own.

Outside of work, Jon enjoys spending time with his wife, Brittany, and their two children. He can often be found on the lake with his family, out fishing, playing basketball, or enjoying time outdoors.

Jason D. Johnston, CFSP
Funeral Director & Embalmer

Jason Johnston, a native of the Missouri–Arkansas Ozarks region, serves as a Funeral Director and Embalmer for the Thompson family.

Jason’s passion for funeral service began early. At just fourteen, inspired by the care and attention to detail shown by his family members in the profession, he approached a local funeral home owner about working in the industry. He started by washing cars and mowing lawns and soon began assisting with larger responsibilities.

His career expanded beyond funeral service when he joined family members in helping develop a rural air ambulance network, what became Air Evac Lifeteam. In his roles as Marketing Development Manager and Education Manager, Jason played a part in the early growth of what is now one of America’s largest medical air transport providers, serving communities across North Texas and beyond.

After earning his degree from Mid-America College of Funeral Service in suburban Louisville, Kentucky, where he graduated as Class President and Valedictorian, Jason returned to his first calling. He went on to manage multiple funeral homes across the Mid-South and Southern United States before settling in Texas.

Today, Jason proudly serves families in Tarrant County and across North Texas, striving “to be the best blessing to someone on possibly the worst day of their life.” Deeply rooted in his faith, Jason is active in several independent Christian church congregations and is a member of numerous funeral service organizations. He is also a Rotarian, a Certified Crematory Operator, and a Certified Cremation Arranger, credentials awarded by the International Cemetery, Cremation and Funeral Association (ICCFA).

Jason has authored numerous professional articles and publications, and his community involvement extends to music, aviation, and volunteer service. He is a former soloist, a member of the Civil Air Patrol, the Missouri Pilots Association, and the academic and professional fraternities Pi Sigma Eta and Mu Sigma Alpha.

Jason and his family now reside in Arlington, Texas, continuing a long family tradition of serving others with care and compassion.
