Mary Gemma Lubrano, 85, died peacefully on Monday, May 27, 2019 after a courageous and swift battle with cancer.

Born on October 5, 1933 in Staten Island, New York, Mary Gemma was the daughter of Philip J. and Mary Murphy. Her brother was Philip D. Murphy.  As a young girl, she enjoyed horseback riding, and her fondness for horses remained throughout her life.

On February 2, 1957, Mary Gemma married Andrew A. Lubrano. Two years later, they welcomed their first of eight children. They moved to Ft. Worth, Texas in the summer of 1974. As a dedicated wife and mother, Mary spent her days tending to the needs of her devoted husband and children. She was always present at school programs and chauffeured her kids to and from extracurricular activities.  A pillar of strength, she fulfilled her responsibilities without complaint and listened when her children needed a “shoulder on which to cry.”

When her children began leaving “the nest,” Mary spent time volunteering at a local food pantry and at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church. She participated in a book club with other women at church. When her husband became a member of the Arlington Goodtimes Chorus, she accompanied him to performances and competitions. Both belonged to the Italian Club and St. Michael’s Leisure Club.

Mary enjoyed reading, listening to music, watching the news, as well as Wheel of Fortune. Vacationing at Ft. Walton Beach, Florida brought her joy. However, time spent with her children and grandkids was what she treasured most of all.  She will always be remembered for her brownies, homemade lasagna, pizza and of course, illegible handwriting.

Mary Gemma had a wonderful dry wit, which was still evident during her final days. She will be greatly missed and never forgotten. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother and infant son, Michael Joseph Lubrano.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years: Andrew A. Lubrano; her children and their spouses, her twenty-five grandchildren, two great grandchildren, three sister in-laws and numerous nieces and nephews. They are as follows: Dr. Vincent Lubrano and his wife Debbie, Dr. Philip Lubrano and his wife Kathy, Andrew Lubrano and his wife Nancy, Angela Forsyth and her husband Jackie, Gina Jaggers and her husband Jack, Lawrence Lubrano and his wife Nynochka, Gemma Urbanek and her husband Frank; her grandchildren, in order of birth, are Lux Lubrano, Christopher Lubrano, David Lubrano, Kevin Lubrano, Sarah Lubrano, Rebecca Forsyth, Matthew Lubrano, Michael Jaggers, John Forsyth, Joel Lubrano, Melanie Forsyth, Rachael Jaggers, Joseph Lubrano, Kyle Forsyth, Nickolas Lubrano, Aaron Jaggers, Benjamin Lubrano, Dominic Lubrano, Angela Lubrano, Nathaniel Lubrano, Zigmund Urbanek, Isabel Lubrano, Carmela Urbanek, Gerard Urbanek and Urban Urbanek; her great grandchildren are Evelyn and Isla Lubrano.
