Obituary of D'Ann Walsh Bonnell

D’Ann Walsh Bonnell, 75, passed away from her earthly home on April 22, 2018.D’Ann was born on January 27, 1943. She grew up on Stadium Drive. Since Alice Carlson, McLean Junior High, and TCU were also on Stadium Drive, she often joked that Paschal High School was the farthest she ever ventured from home.Starting in school and throughout her adult life, she belonged to numerous organizations and held leadership positions in many of them, but rather than list them, she would prefer to be remembered for her great love of all people. D’Ann spoke to everyone she came in contact with regardless of their station in life. D’Ann was always an affectionate hugger and a notorious over-tipper. She was known for and encouraged others to pay for meals for uniformed service members, veterans, and law enforcement officers whenever she could get away with it, as long as she could do it without being caught. Her favorite activity was volunteering with children. D’Ann always said that she was blessed to have everything she ever wanted in life, which was to marry a good man, have children, and to adopt a child. Twelve grandchildren were the icing on the cake. She adored her family and friends and loved to host- the more, the merrier- in Fort Worth, at her lake house, and in Colorado Springs. D’Ann had a wonderful sense of humor and was always ready with a good joke or two.When cancer struck with a vengeance in April of 2006, life changed dramatically for D’Ann and especially her husband, Bill. With his love and help, she battled through six different rounds of chemotherapy and survived for over 12 years with stage IV cancer. Since she couldn’t volunteer any more, she made it a habit to always talk to other cancer patients and encourage them with stories of her remarkably long battle. She had been told early on that she would likely survive only a few months, but surpassed all expectations, meeting and getting to know 7 new grandkids along the journey. She credits God, Jesus, and her wonderful caring doctors for her long survival.The Bonnell family would like to thank Dr. Angel Negron, Dr. Assad Dean, Dr. Kenneth Hancock, Dr. Terresa Godby, Dr. John Burk, and numerous other medical personnel for their love, support, and undying dedication.D’Ann was preceded in death by her grandparents; parents, Mary D. and F. Howard Walsh; brother, F. Howard Walsh, Jr.; daughter-in-law, Christina; cousin, Emily Luz; and many, many dear friends.
