Obituary of Roger Allen Crego

Roger Allen Crego, 84, died peacefully in his sleep on September 13, 2019 at his home in Arlington.Roger was born in Columbus, Ohio to Vexter and Dorothy Hartman. He made it to California as fast as he could, settling in San Diego at the tender age of 3. His newly divorced mother got remarried to Grover Crego who adopted Roger. He became a big brother to a brother and a sister, all growing up in the California sun. High school ROTC gave him all the discipline he needed and he went headlong into the world of business. At a party, he met the first love of his life, Gloria Zoch, who said, “I do” and three kids later, hightailed it to Texas to start Inventory Specialists, Inc. adding another child to his rambunctious household. Alas, 1972 was not a good year except for attorneys, but cupid was not done with him yet and Roger fell a second time with Naome ‘Chris’ Mosley. She too said, “I do” and he became stepdad to one more. In the meantime, he started acquiring gas station convenience stores, eventually selling them, starting Six Flags Automotive and Big Star Towing, keeping Inventory Specialists throughout. He cared for Chris while she fought her cancer but lost. Roger kept working. Then he went dancing, discovering a love for Country & Western and Norma Hodge, who became his loving companion and dearest friend for the next 20+ years. Roger retired but kept dancing, starting a senior dance twice a week, first in Pantego then moving on to the Eunice Activity Center in Arlington when the number of dancers overwhelmed the Lion’s Club building. His specialty was making people feel welcome and finding the best live music in the Metroplex. He called it “Fun Time” and it was. He retired from running dances just over a year ago but never forgot the friends he made. He was fortunate to be able to bring enjoyment to so many and to have loved and been loved by three beautiful women.Roger is survived by his four children, Linda Crego, Debra and husband, Nigel Goad, Randy Crego and wife, Rose, Ron Crego and wife, Marie; sister, Sondra Hall; brother, Gene Crego and wife, Tillie; along with seven grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.Roger was preceded in death by parents Dorothy and Grover, Gloria Crego, Chris Crego, stepson Allen Mosley and Norma Hodge.
