Obituary of Kathryn Barros Fialho

Kathryn Barros Fialho, 85, archivist and historian for St. Patrick Cathedral, died Wednesday, March 16, 2022, surrounded by her loving family.Mrs. Fialho was born September 23, 1936, in Breckenridge, Texas, daughter of the late Nicholas Demetrius and Kathryn Dora Thompson Barros. She graduated from Breckenridge High School in 1955 and attended Hardin-Simmons University, majoring in biology. In 1960, she graduated from Dallas’ Parkland Hospital School of Cytotechnology and was hired by Harris Methodist Hospital in Fort Worth as its first cytotechnologist in its new cytology and cytogenetics department. She also worked in hospitals in Dallas, Houston, and Waco.In 1968, she married Vincent F. Fialho, and they had two children, David and Anna. A convert to the Catholic Church, her faith and love of history eventually led her to a life of service at St. Patrick Cathedral in Fort Worth, including a 30-year career as the church’s archivist and historian. She also served as the longtime wedding coordinator, retiring in 2019. That same year she authored the book Cathedral Treasures, based on her archival work at St. Patrick.Survivors: Husband, Vincent; son, James Anthony David; daughter, Anna Fialho Byers and husband, Nathaniel; brother, David Barros and wife, Carolyn; and beloved golden retriever, Sophie.She was preceded in death by her brother, James Donald Barros; golden retrievers, Lucy and Froney.
