Obituary of Dr. Bob Chandler

Reverend Doctor Bob J. Chandler passed away on January 19, surrounded by family and friends, after suffering a massive heart attack.Bob was born June 20, 1946 in Lexington, Oklahoma. He met Cherry Olloqui while they were attending Oklahoma Baptist University in September 1964, and they married June 4, 1965 at the end of their freshman year. Bob graduated from Texas Wesleyan University in 1968 and from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1972. He earned his Doctorate of Ministry from Brite Divinity School at TCU in 1998.Bob’s ministry in the Christian Church Disciples of Christ began in March 1974 at Woodlawn Christian Church in San Antonio where he served as Associate Minister. His career included serving as Senior Minister in four different churches in Texas and one Christian/Presbyterian Church in Pawhuska, Oklahoma. He then served as Interim Minister in five different Christian churches, ending his career as Interim Minister at New Hope Fellowship in Fort Worth and retiring on September 9, 2018. His ministry included serving as camp counselor in various church camping programs over the years. Bob loved the Christian Church. He was loved by members of the congregations he served, the campers with whom he worked, his colleagues and his friends.Bob was preceded in death by their son, Robert D. Chandler, grandson Chance Schneider, and granddaughter Cherylanne Chandler.Bob is survived by his wife Cherry, their son Jeff Chandler, daughter Christina Chandler, daughter-in-law Tonya Chandler, grandchildren Laci Fowler, Devin Chandler, Adam Chandler, Elizabeth Chandler, Collin Chandler, Matthew Chandler, two great-grandchildren Dawn Chandler and Kristian Potts, sisters Earnestine Elliott, Sarah Cayer and husband Jacquez, Hazel Bond, mother-in-law Mary Davis, and nieces and nephews, and close family members Abe, Amari, and Katie Velezquez, Debbie Bowman Wiles and husband Gerald, and Lee Ann Bowman.
