Obituary of George Gray Wilkes

George Gray Wilkes, 95, joined his Lord Jesus Christ on Sunday, September 10, 2017, surrounded by his family.Born in Ranger, Texas on August 25, 1922, George was the oldest of three children. He attended Amon Carter High School before enlisting in the U.S. Navy where he served in Darwin, Australia and the Philippines. After an honorable discharge from the Navy, he finished his education at Trimble Tech High School.For 38 years, George was employed by the City of Fort Worth starting as a Draftsman and ultimately serving as the Real Property Manager for the Right-of-Way Division of the Land Department. He was an avid golfer and served as a Marshall for the Colonial Golf Tournament for more than 30 years.George was a faithful member of Sagamore Hill Baptist Church and later Travis Avenue Baptist Church. He was a servant to others and a quiet man; steadfast and faithful to his Lord, family and friends.He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 59 years, Kathleen King Wilkes and his brother, Kenneth.Survivors: He is survived by his four children, Lindsey King Wilkes of Arlington, Lauree Wilkes Swanberg and husband, Dennis, of Monroe, Louisiana, Leeann Wilkes Riley and husband, Rick, of Austin, and Lyman Gray Wilkes and wife, Lara, of Tomball; George was a loving grandfather to Chad Swanberg, Dustin Swanberg and wife, Britny, Alyca Riley, Allyson Riley, Austyn Riley, and Grayson Wilkes; and brother of Erma Jo Logan of Azle.
