Obituary of Susan Lynn Schwinger

Susan Lynn Schwinger, P.E., died peacefully early Tuesday morning, April 10, 2018, after a long courageous battle with melanoma cancer. She was surrounded by her loving family.Susan Lynn Schwinger was born on December 29, 1960 in Fort Worth to John and Ellen Schwinger. She was a 1979 graduate of Richland High School where she was a devoted athlete. She went on to play collegiate softball, semi-pro soccer, and was an avid cyclist. Susan received her bachelors and master’s degrees in Civil Engineering from University of Texas at Arlington. She later earned her professional Engineer License/Seal, both state and national, and was a member of the American Society of Civil Engineering.Susan had a successful career as an engineer with accomplishments such as one of the Project Managers at the Bergstrom Airport in Austin, and many projects throughout Tarrant County. Susan worked for the City of Fort Worth, Water Engineering Department for almost twenty years but her life’s work was serving the homeless and others who were less fortunate. She relentlessly sought out people who were on the streets by bringing food, clothing, and essentials. Susan’s faith and devotion to helping others was what she cherished most.She is survived by her parents, John and Ellen Schwinger; sister, Christi Garcia and her daughters, Elena and Emma Garcia; John’s sisters, Annette and husband, Roy Plhak, and Betty and husband, Bob Frantz.To know Susan was to love her. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Susan was a kind and gentle soul who is now in her heavenly home.
