Obituary of Irad McGrady Cochran Jr.

Irad McGrady Cochran, Jr. DDS passed away peacefully Wednesday morning, September 27, 2017 in Weatherford, Texas at the age of 99.Irad was born in Comanche, Texas. He moved to Fort Worth during junior high and attended R.L. Paschal High School where he was a proud graduate. He continued on to the University Of Texas and then the Baylor Dental College in Dallas to follow in his father’s footsteps to become a Dentist. He met the love of his life, Betty Griswell, shortly before World War II, and they married just 5 months before he was deployed on the USS Argonne in the South Pacific. When he returned state-side, Dr. Cochran had attained the rank of Commander in the USNR and started his own practice in downtown Fort Worth. Irad and Betty adopted three children, Robert, Curtis, and Cathy, raising their family on the East Side of Fort Worth. They remained together until her death in 1996. He continued to practice Dentistry until his 90th birthday in 2008, becoming the longest practicing dentist in Texas at 67 years.Dr. Cochran was known through-out Fort Worth for his compassion, willingness to aid those that needed it, and active involvement with community programs like Meals-On-Wheels. He was an avid hunter and fisherman his entire life, dedicated to land management, ranching, and sharing these ideals with his family and friends. A lover of the Dallas Cowboys, Texas Rangers, and all things TCU, he attended regular TCU football games until he was 97. After retirement, he began working with Stream Energy and became a Senior Director. He also played cards with his friends and caregivers, attended Sunday school, and watched classic movies in his spare time.The family wishes to thank all of the care-givers and assistance given in care of Dr. Cochran in his final years.He is preceded by the love of his life Betty Cochran, and his eldest son and hunting partner, Robert Cochran.He is survived by many that love him, including son, Curtis and his wife, Shelley, along with grandchildren, Tyler, Thomas and Christine, with great-grandchild Emmy, and Kyle; daughter, Cathy and her husband, Guy, along with grandchildren, Ryan and Angela with great-grandchild Aiden, Chris and Lindsey with great-grandchildren Daniel, Matthew, Claire, and Ellie, Ben and Cara, Joshua, and Kenzie. He is also survived by grandchildren Kendra and Dave with great-grandchildren Bradyn and Kamryn, Gwynn, and Shawn.
