Obituary of Colleen Corbett Schumacher

Colleen Corbett Schumacher, born October 7, 1953, was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. God suddenly called her home on Friday, May 17th, 2019.A devout Catholic, she was a charter member of St. Bartholomew Catholic Church where she participated in many activities and was involved in multiple ministries including: Marriage Preparation for 27 years, High School Youth Leader for 4 years, Counting Ministry, Bereavement Committee, Eucharistic Minister. She was involved in several Bible studies and most notably known as “The Blood Lady” heading up the parish blood drives for over 20 years and she volunteered at the Presbyterian Night Shelter. She is an alumni of St. Andrew’s Catholic School and Nolan Catholic High School in Fort Worth, and a graduate of the University of Texas at Arlington with a B.S. in Nursing in 1978.Over her 41-year career as a nurse at Harris Methodist in Fort Worth and Baylor, Scott and White Health in Dallas she cared for thousands of patients with compassion and grace. She enjoyed taking trips with friends and family, loved going “antiquing” and going to the movies. She enjoyed taking care of her beloved grandchildren. She was also known as “Schu-Schu” by her grandchildren, their teachers and the community of the schools they attended. She always brightened the day of those around her with a warm smile, hug, or witty comment. She enjoyed baking with her Coffee Cake and Bourbon Balls well known by all. She enjoyed traveling overseas to Rome with her friends and to visit family in Dubai. She loved fiercely and fully devoting herself to enriching the life of those around her. She leaves a legacy of love and laughter for her grandchildren who enjoyed spending time with her playing games and watching movies. She is preceded in death by her mother, Zelda Burden, Father, James Corbett Sr., and sister, Sharon Duncan.She is survived by her loving husband of 40 years, Richard Schumacher; sisters, Cathy Wheeler, Dr. Adrian Goldfinger and husband, Mel Goldfinger; brothers, James Corbett Jr. and wife, Mildred Corbett, Timothy Corbett and wife, Carrie Corbett; children, Kristin Ferrell and husband, Justin Ferrell, James Schumacher and wife, Brigida Schumacher; grandchildren, Sophia and William Schumacher; and numerous nieces and nephews, as well as many other relatives and friends.
