Obituary of Marjorie Jean Dorris Sanford

Marjorie Jean Dorris Sanford gave up her spirit Tuesday morning, November 27, 2018.Jean was born in Fort Worth on March 9, 1935 to H. B. and Louise Dorris. She graduated from Paschal High School and attended TCU where she met Don Sanford. The two were married on January 28, 1956. After Don’s stint in the Air Force, they came home to Fort Worth and raised four pretty good kids. She was also a wonderful grandmother to six and loving great-grandmother to four.In middle school, she and some friends formed an informal group called “AFOLLEH.” Together they had a wonderful ride through high school and beyond. All of those young women were friends for life. In college, Jean pledged Delta Delta Delta and was an active member for the rest of her life. Dr. Pepper was an integral part of Jean’s life. Her grandfather, H. B. Dorris I, founded the Fort Worth franchise in the early 1900’s.The family successfully ran the business until the mid 1970’s when it was sold to the parent company. She received a Speech Pathologist degree from TCU, and specialized in auditory retraining of students with language learning disabilities. For many years she taught at the Key School and did private tutoring at home.Her 5′ 4″ 100 pound frame belied how strong she really was. In her final years, she beat breast, lung and throat cancer. Unfortunately, the lung cancer came back and was joined by colon cancer and it became too much for her to handle.She was preceded in death her husband of almost 60 years, Don Sanford, and her brother H. B. “Sonny” Dorris III.She is survived by her children, Don Sanford Jr. and his wife, Tracey Wood Sanford, Larry Sanford, David Sanford and Robin Eitel and her husband, David Eitel; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; countless friends and a large loving family.
