Obituary of Patricia Helen Collins Massad

Patricia Helen Collins Massad passed away peacefully at her home with her family by her side on Saturday, February 17, 2018, at the age of 84. A prolific gifted lady, she was admired for her beauty and style. Patricia was married for 42 years to William A Massad, Col (ret) US Army.Patricia was the daughter of Victoria Madden Collins and Clyde Otto “Ted” Collins. of Fort Worth. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother C.O. Ted Collins, Jr. Pat, like her late brother, had fond memories of growing up on Tremont Street in Fort Worth, keeping in touch with childhood friends.She attended kindergarten (Mrs. Bowers) through Arlington Heights High School and a small group of her classmates continued to lunch monthly at various local restaurants.She attended Sweet Briar College in Virginia for one semester; returned home to enroll at Texas Christian University. She was homesick for her Mother, her little “tag along” Brother, and the city of Fort WorthIn 1976 she married Bill Massad. Patricia rediscovered her talent in communications, hosting, a daily radio show “Brunch at the Bronze M” on KJIM , and writing a weekly “About Town” column for the morning Fort Worth Star Telegram.Her generous nature guided her to accept the 1989 Presidency of the Jewel Charity Ball benefiting Cook Children’s Hospital where her fabulous group of volunteers raised over one million dollars, a first time to exceed the million-dollar mark.She followed that success in 1991 when the Museum of Science and History requested that she serve as chair of the benefit, “Soviet Space” highlighting the USSR and its changing space program. Pat’s many successes included an active participation in Fort Worth Community Theater. She and her favorite co-star, Guy Allen Lewis, filled the Scott Theater on many occasions. Also, she loved to “troop” with Junior League Members performing at Fort Worth Schools. Open to challenges, she was never a follower. As an example, the circus came to Fort Worth and Pat wanted to interview trainers and performers. The circus dared her to mount an elephant and ride it from the railroad boxcars to downtown Fort Worth. She not only performed the ride well to the applause of bystanders, she considered joining the circus (but was never asked). Too bad; she would have been a great attraction.She with a handful of other fashion models, dominated the runways of fashion shows sponsored by local department stores and boutiques for several decades.Pat was a member of the founding board James L West Center and served other charitable organizations such as Arts Council of Fort Worth, serving as chair of the annual council ball (featuring Crystal Gayle as the-headliner); and President of the Fort Worth Lighthouse for the Blind.Pat’s family thanks those who cared for her, Mariela and Rudy Castillo, Gilberto, Comfort Keepers and Community Hospice.She is survived by her husband, Bill; her sister-in-law, Diana Collins of Midland; nephews, James Patrick Collins and wife, Lindsey and their three children, Ford, Petra Ann, and Delphine Augusta of Dallas; Christopher Michael Collins and his daughter, Lila Valentine of New Orleans; and Ted Collins III his wife, Rocias and their daughter, Evanka of Corpus Christi.May this unusual gift from God rest in peace.
