Obituary of Doris Catherine Manning Ashour

Doris Catherine Manning Ashour died in her Fort Worth home surrounded by family, including the Communion of Saints, on January 23, 2018.Doris was born February 2, 1930 in Fort Worth. She prepared for an active Catholic life having graduated from Our Lady of Victory High School and Siena College of Memphis and three times attending the Summer School of Catholic Action. She was first a wife and mother of six children. She led three buses of ladies to the abortion hearings in Austin while she was chairman of the Family Life of the NCCW. An active volunteer, Doris coached volleyball, basketball, and softball for the girls’ teams for 13 years and served as Athletic Director at St. Andrew for that time. She was the 1st Fort Worth Catholic Diocesan Sports Director for Schools, serving 6 years. An avid softball player when she was young and didn’t use a glove to catch, Doris loved coaching softball for Blue Raider and was commissioner for several years. She loved to travel going to all 50 states of the United States and several times to Europe. She loved to play bridge, and since 1956 worked on Family Tree with over 4,000 ancestors in it, working it back to 720. She served on the parish council and worked for 11 years to get the gym built at St. Andrews. She led the Thursday Morning Bible discussion Club for 26 years (since 1985).She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Ashour; her parents, Bernard Herbert Manning and Mary Anveline (Lina) McDonnell Manning; brothers, Ralph B. (Rip), Harold J. (Hap), and B. Herbert, and Don Manning; sisters, Sister Frances Marie Manning (SSMN), Evelyn Beck of Sequim Wash, Adelene York.Survivors: Sons, Titus Ashour and wife, Diane, Grand Prairie, John Ashour, Thomas Ashour and wife, Maria, Fort Worth; daughters, Katy Rodriguez and her late husband, Joe, Monica Ashour, Clare McGarrey and husband, Nick; grandchildren, Anna, Mary, Joseph and Maggie Rodriguez; Paul, Sarah (Sister Jane Karol), Timothy, Michael, Theresa and Anthony Ashour; John Paul, Elizabeth and Joshua Ashour; Nicky McGarrey; sisters, Wilma Pannell, Margaret Kalmbacher, Pat Bilardi of Fort Worth.
