Obituary of Kathryn Lowdon Schutts

Kathryn Lowdon Schutts, 92, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on Sunday September 24, 2017.Kathryn was born in Fort Worth, attended Pascal High School and graduated from the University of Texas. The middle of three sisters, “Kacky” was a fun loving prankster with a big heart and a big personality. When she was 12 years old she met Bobby Schutts at the neighborhood soda fountain counter. He was two years older, tall and an enthusiastic golfer with deep dimples. It was the beginning of a great romance. She once said her only regret was that she couldn’t marry him that day. He later wrote in her Paschal annual, “Kacky you are what I call a perfect girl; excellent dancer, lovely disposition, and one of the sweetest girls I know. Although we have had a lot of arguments, it’s been the happiest days I have ever had when I’ve been with you.” They were married July 25, 1945 after he returned from serving in the Army Air Corps.Kathryn was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Affectionately called the Queen by family, she was full of life, generous, a perfect hostess known for her sense of humor and dedicated to her family and friends. She and Bobby traveled throughout the country on golfing trips and enjoyed spending time in Ruidoso. She had a special love of the Texas coast and spent summer vacations with her children and grandchildren on the beach in Port Aransas and South Padre Island. When in town she could be found fishing the stock tanks at their ranch.She was a member of River Crest County Club, the Lecture Foundation, the Fort Worth Garden Club, the Junior League of Fort Worth and served as President of the Jewel Charity. She was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority and active in the alumnae chapter. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church for over 80 years, an ordained elder and president of Presbyterian Women. A lifelong student of the Bible, her own study version is filled with handwritten notes sometimes interspersed with the grocery list. She was an active community volunteer and philanthropist; the Lowdon-Schutts Building of the Presbyterian Night Shelter is named in her honor.She was preceded in death by her husband Bobby Schutts: her parents, William Cameron Lowdon and Jean Logan Lowdon; sisters Margaret Jean Lowdon and Ann Lowdon Hamilton, her son-in-law Gary Thompson as well as her driver and dear friend Claude Glover.Her family is grateful to her loving caregivers, especially Idelia Johnson and Hilda Watson.Survivors: Sons, Philip Schutts and wife Heidi, Alan Schutts and wife Pat and daughter Suzy Rhodes and husband Ray. Grandchildren: Will and Anneris Schutts. Emily and Sherman Jones, Logan Schutts and Lesley and Tyler Moeller, Katy and Sam Hobbs, Molly and Naomi Campa, as well as great grandchildren Reagan and Aspen Jones, Robert, Arianna and Nicholas Schutts, Connor and Finn Moeller and Lowdon and Gage Hobbs.
