Obituary of James Errol Wood

James Errol Wood died November 25, 2021.He was born November 5, 1934 in Flint, Michigan to Francis Errol and Zada Marie (Doerr) Wood and moved with his family to Traverse City, Michigan in 1943, where he graduated from high school in 1952.His early ambition was to be an Air Force pilot. He obtained a pilot’s license at age 15. He entered the Air Fore Aviation Cadet Program in 1954 and received his commission and wings in November 1955. For most of his Air Force career, he flew KC-135’s except for a year in Vietnam when he flew C-7A Caribou’s at An Khe and Phut Cat. Jim retired from the Air Force as a Lieutenant Colonel in1976. Among his military awards are the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal with six oak leaf clusters, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Joint Service Commendation Meal, and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm.After retiring from the Air Force, he moved his family to Arlington and was employed by Del Norte Technology in Euless as controller until 1994. He and Joanne moved to Fort Worth in 2013.He is survived b his daughter, Janet Rae Wood of York, England; brother, David Allen Wood of Traverse City, Michigan; three granddaughters, Kylie, Megan, and Jordan Wood of Houston.
