Obituary of Col. Robert Hollis Kerr
Col. Robert “Bob” Hollis Kerr, USAF(Ret.), 74, passed away December 16, 2019.Bob was born June 20, 1945 in Cincinnati, OH to Robert J. and Mary Margaret (Hollis) Kerr, who both preceded him in death. He and Carolyn married on May 6, 1972 in Dayton, OH.Bob graduated from Barrington High School in Barrington, IL in 1963, the Virginia Military Institute (BS – Chemistry) in 1967, the University of Illinois (MS – Chemistry) in 1969 and the University of Southern California (MS – Systems Management) in 1977. While at VMI, Bob played on the varsity golf team. He learned the game at an early age and enjoyed it throughout his life. His children and grandchildren, sports (especially Texas A&M football), business news, and politics were frequent topics in his conversation.Col. Kerr served from 1969 – 1999 in the United States Air Force, during which time he worked in a variety of munitions, maintenance, nuclear operations, and logistics positions, commanding three squadrons, two logistics groups, and holding the position of DCM. After traveling the world, including stops in Turkey, Japan, Hawaii, Colorado, Virginia, Greece, Arizona, and Saudi Arabia, his final duty station was Randolph AFB in San Antonio. He retired with numerous career honors.In 1999, Bob began a twenty year career with First Command, starting as a Financial Advisor in San Antonio, eventually moving to North Texas where he held several District Advisor positions, and most recently served as District Advisor for the Irving, Plano, Frisco, Wichita Falls, and Northern Dallas areas. He derived great pleasure from working with clients and seeing them advance toward their financial goals, and from mentoring the financial advisors of tomorrow. He is fondly remembered by First Command clients and fellow employees for his caring and generous spirit.Bob was exceptionally proud of both his military service and his years at First Command.He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Carolyn Rita (Wieland) Kerr; children, Edward Kerr and wife, Vanessa, of San Antonio, and Katherine Gleason and husband, Andrew, of Phoenix, AZ; grandchildren, Anthony Kerr and Brandon Kerr, Danielle Gleason and William Gleason.
