Obituary of LaVonne Cummings Wilson

LaVonne Cummings Wilson, 84, passed away November 11, 2021. She was born to Elvis and Willie Cummings on February 28, 1937 in Paris, TX and later was joined by her brother Garry who preceded her in death.LaVonne was married to Charles Lewis Wilson for 66 years. They moved to Waco while both were studying at Baylor University. After Charles graduated, they moved to Fort Worth where LaVonne continued her quest for knowledge by receiving a Bachelor of Science in Education in 1973 and Master of Education in 1982 from Texas Christian University.LaVonne began her teaching career at Fort Worth Country Day School teaching 2nd grade. That road led her to an adjunct professorship at Texas Christian University. She then started her own tutoring business specializing in assisting students in SAT and ACT preparation, reading and study skills.LaVonne and her family have been members of Broadway Baptist Church in Fort Worth for 64 years. She worked as the Pastor’s Administrative Assistant and many years as the church librarian. Many children can fondly remember the effort LaVonne took in assisting them in their reading endeavors at Broadway. She also carried her passion for teaching and her love of scripture through many Sunday School classes starting in elementary and continuing through adult departments through the years.A gifted pianist and organist, LaVonne spent hours at her organ practicing and enjoying music. She was passionate in her faith and lived her life full of love. She will be remembered as a kind, gentle but strong woman who had deep faith and lived her life by the values she studied and held so dear.LaVonne was foremost a wonderful and giving mother and wife. She and Charles have two children, Brent Wilson and Janet Wilson Snyder. She dedicated herself to her family and their upbringing while balancing a career and homemaking. The time spent with her children is evidenced by their accomplishments in school and life. Brent is married to Nancy and Janet is married to William Snyder. She also had a profound effect on nine gifted grandchildren, Ben Edwards, Asher Edwards, Cory Wilson, Alex Hale, Sara Snyder, Katia Snyder, Will Snyder, Mark Snyder, and Liam Snyder. She was a great grandmother to Vaughn, Banke, Wilder, Ike and Elliot Hale.
