Obituary of Warren L. Moody

Reverend Warren L. Moody Jr. died September 27, 2021.Rev. Moody was born on October 12, 1930 in Richmond Virginia to Warren Sr. and Janet Moody. He attended St. Christopher’s School and later graduated in 1954 from Washington & Lee University. Warren was ordained as a Presbyterian minister upon graduating from Union Theological Seminary in Richmond. His first job was as an army chaplain in West Germany. Next, he was the Pastor of Covenant Presbyterian Church in Midland, Texas. In 1963, he became the pastor of St. James Presbyterian Church in Fort Worth. In 1979, Warren was named Associate General Presbyter for Urban Ministries in Grace Presbytery. Rev. Moody was THE coordinating and driving force behind the creation and establishment of the Presbyterian Night Shelter. From 1993 – 1997, Warren served as the Executive Presbyter for Grace Presbytery. Upon his retirement, he spent his time: playing golf with his friends and fellow golfers known as “The Grumps”, serving on the Fort Worth Golf Advisory Committee, serving on the Oakwood Cemetery Board, and delivering Meals On Wheels.Warren was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. Warren Sr. and Mrs. Janet Moody; his son, Dr. Warren L. Moody III; his wife of 67 years, Mrs. Katherine J. “Kitsy” Moody, and his sister, and Mrs. Jane Moody Swan.Warren is survived by his daughter, Dr. Janet Moody Melton; son-in-law, Mr. Gary L. Melton; grandson, Mr. Christopher “Chris” Melton; great-niece, Ms. Barbara Browning; several cousins, and all those who knew and loved him.
