Bonnie Bernice Scogins Timmins, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully in Fort Worth, Texas, on June 3, 2018, at the age of 101.Bonnie was born on August 31, 1916 in Timpson, Texas, to Chappie Doolin and Arthula Bell Nelson Scogins. She relocated to Marshall with her family when she was 10, and lived there more than 80 years. After graduating from Marshall High School in 1934, she worked as a “Candy Girl” at McClellan’s Variety Store and later as a dental assistant with Dr. W. L. Munden.Bonnie married Amos Frank Timmins in Waskom, Texas, on her birthday in 1939. They were married for 67 years and had three children.Actively involved in her children’s activities throughout the years, Bonnie also found time to help her husband with his business ventures. Together, they ran the Marshall distribution agency of The Dallas Morning News for more than 50 years, and also operated a successful regional chain of auto parts / repair stores, Texas Auto Supply.A committed Christian, Bonnie was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church of Marshall, where she served as a receptionist, assisted in capital campaigns, was president of the Nell Williams Sunday School class and later became active in the Young at Heart Club.In her nearly 102 years on this Earth, Bonnie always found the good in others and shared her unbreakable positivity and genuine warmth with all who knew her. She was the eternal optimist—the kind of person who brought sunshine into even the darkest of rooms. She was an outstanding country cook, made the best pies in Harrison County and always had a kind word for anyone she met. She was very proud of her hometown of Marshall, served as president of the Ingleside Club and volunteered with the Chamber for the Festival of Lights. Bonnie adored her family and friends and spent her years with grace, happiness and a genuine zest for life. She will be dearly missed.Bonnie was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brother Roger Scogins, nephew, Wayne Scogins, niece Sherry Scogins Hansen, brother-in-law Dr. Emory S. Timmins and wife Lorell, and sister-in-law, Mary Timmins Jackson and husband, Brent.She is survived by her children, Mary Kathryn Timmins Bryan and husband Lowell of Fort Worth, Amos Frank Timmins Jr. and wife Sherrie of Dallas, and Bonnie B. Timmins of Marshall; grandchildren Michael Edward Bryan of Grand Prairie, Taylor Timmins Wiley and husband Chris of Houston, and Jefferson Lee Timmins of Austin; nephew, E.S. Timmins and wife, Carol; and nieces, Becky Bair and husband, Larry, and Lisa Timmins Joneson and husband, Richard.
