Obituary of Grace Beatrice Rooney

Grace Beatrice Rooney, 100, completed her earthly mission and was welcomed into heaven to receive her final reward on April 5, 2021, a scant 83 days short of her 101st birthday.A diminutive four feet, ten inches, Gracie’s physical stature was not indicative of her greatness of personality and giving nature. She was an extraordinarily capable woman who supported her Air Force spouse through a 36 year career and raised two sons while traveling the world frequently managing family and home on her own. She was an accomplished athlete spending recreational time on the ski slopes, tennis court and golf course during her young adult years and a prolific card player in her later years demonstrating exceptional expertise in a myriad of complex games.She lived a long and fruitful life, giving of herself and appreciating those who gave to her especially the caring and capable staff at Colonial Garden Memory Care Center who so ably assisted her in navigating the challenging final years of her life.Gracie was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Lt. Col. (retired) Laurence “Buck” Rooney, Sr.; her infant daughter, Patricia; and most recently, her Air Force Veteran son, Lt. Col. (retired) Michael Rooney.She is survived by her son, Larry, and his wife, Claire; daughter in law, Delores, and three granddaughters, Katie, Andee and Heather.
