Obituary of Robert Bruce Crates

Robert Bruce “Bob” Crates, 56 of Fort Worth died on Tuesday, November 20, 2018 after a lingering illness.A native of Chattanooga, TN, he was a resident of Fort Worth for over 30 years and was involved in the financial and capital management field for his entire career.Bob graduated from Bright School and McCallie School in Chattanooga, and received a BS in economics from Yale University. An avid tennis player, he gained high school All-American status at McCallie School. He also played on the Yale University tennis team. After graduation from Yale, Bob was employed with U. S. Trust Company, New York, NY in the commercial loan and development department. He moved to Fort Worth where he was employed by Luther King Capital Management and subsequently with Crates-Thompson Capital Management. He served as a board member of Tapinator, Inc., New York, NY.A lifelong Episcopalian, he was an active member of All Saints’ Episcopal Church where Bob spent a large amount of time serving others. He considered himself fortunate to have had the opportunity to be involved in All Saints’ outreach mission at the Amazing Grace Orphanage in Kenya which played a major and loving role in his life. He was especially grateful to Father Jambor for this opportunity and traveling with him to Kenya frequently.Bob was preceded in death by his grandparents and his mother, Dr. Gladys H. Crates.Bob is survived by his father, Rear Adm (Ret) Robert C. Crates of Chattanooga, TN; brother, Dr. John M. Crates (Angela Tilley Crates) of Plano; nieces Chandler, Cameron and Campbell Crates of Plano; and special friend, Suzette Cox of Fort Worth.
