Obituary of Katharine Stone Waltman Hubans

Kitsie Hubans, born Katharine Stone Waltman Jr., 79, returned to her Heavenly home on Tuesday, December 7, 2021. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, and cousin who cherished her loved ones and walked in faith as a born-again Christian.Kitsie was born in Fort Worth on August 1, 1942 to William DeWitt Waltman, Jr. and Katharine (Stone) Waltman. After graduating from The Hockaday School of Dallas in 1960, she attended Texas Christian University to study musical theater. Charismatic, animated, beautiful, and vocally gifted, Kitsie was born for the stage, performing in dozens of musical programs at Casa Manana, the Granbury Opera House, and beyond. In 1994, Kitsie met and fell in love with Frank Hubans. They married and remained inseparable, and he has been a devoted husband and caregiver. In her last years, her advice for friends and family was: “Follow Jesus, trust your instincts, love and care for others, find and celebrate beauty in all things, don’t be afraid to ask for help, and for Heaven’s sake, don’t smoke!”Kitsie was gregarious and made friends with everyone she met. She just had a magical way of making others feel special and beautiful by sharing a sweet thought or compliment. She was warm, nurturing, and highly in tune with the natural world and with others. With an amazing green thumb, she could nurse any plant back to life. People and animals always found their way to her for healing – body and soul. Her family joked that there was a special underground railroad for cats, possums, squirrels, owls, birds and all manner of critters that led straight to her door. She had a remarkable way of seeing straight into living things and knowing what they needed and her unbeatable hugs were medicine for the heart.Kitsie was a member of The Assembly, the Jewel Charity Ball and The Daughters of the American Revolution. She is survived by her beloved husband Frank Hubans, her sister, Jan Waltman Odom, her children, Bob Lilly, Jr., Michelle Miller, Christienne Martin, stepson, Christopher Hubans, cousin, Harriet Willis, and the father of her children, Robert Lilly and ten grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.Kitsie was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Katy Waltman, her brother, Bill Waltman III, and her beloved baby girl, Carmen Lilly.
