Obituary of Ann Felton

After 103 years and seven months, almost to the day, Ann Felton, born and raised in Fort Worth, died peacefully at Bethesda Gardens on Saturday, January 6, with her family near. Born to Fred and Rose Ann Felton June 7, 1914 Miss Felton attended Holy Name Catholic Church and elementary school, and graduated from Our Lady of Victory High School in 1932. She earned her Bachelor of Social Work degree from Texas Women’s University in 1950 and her Master of Social Work degree from Tulane University School of Social Work in 1956.Upon graduation Miss Felton accepted a position with the Texas Department of State Health Services, San Antonio State Hospital, where she continued her practice for 40 years. Her many involvements while in San Antonio included being a member of St. Gregory Catholic Church, active in the Altar Society and founding the St. Vincent de Paul Society, working closely with Christian Assistant Ministries, and a member of Phi Eta Sorority.Miss Felton retired in 1995, choosing Fort Worth’s St. Francis Village as her new home, and placing her nearer her remaining family. She took little time contributing her knowledge, skills and experience to the Village. Over the next 17 years her contributions included founding the Bereavement Committee; leading the Grief Support and Recovery Program; cofounding The Lunch Bunch, a resident lunch outing; starting Sunday Socials to improve fellowship among denominations; involving herself with the St. Anthony Neighborhood Association, organizing block parties and neighborhood activities; serving with a friend as a St. Francis Newcomer committee, baking and delivering cookies to new residents; and doing volunteer work for a protestant ministry and Tarrant County. She was also a world traveler and an avid golfer into her 80’s.The St. Francis Village Community News said, “Ann Felton has been an impetus for positive change wherever she goes,” adding that she had made lasting contributions to life in the Village from which residents continue to benefit.That same tenacity entrenched her firmly with her family, both immediate and extended. Miss Felton not only hosted an annual family Christmas celebration, she was always a welcomed and intricate part of every function; be it a holiday gathering, birthday, graduation or just a parley of the clan. Her charm was undeniable. Her teachings immeasurable. Her positive impact and zest for life on both her family and friends unprecedented.Ann Felton is survived by five nieces and two nephews; Elizabeth Cunningham, Kay Everett, Joyce Wilson, Mary Kaszynski and Carol Pahs; Steve Felton and Wade Cleveland; plus numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews.
