Obituary of Gene McGhee Buck

Gene McGhee Buck died in her usual elegant way, peacefully closing her eyes in the early morning of June 2, 2018, at her home. Mrs. Buck was 94.Born in Chicago, Illinois on September 7, 1923, Gene McGhee was the daughter of William and Lillian McGhee. She attended the Immaculata preparatory school in Chicago, the University of Texas, where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority, and Mundelein College for Women in Chicago. She was married to Raymond Elliot Buck, Jr, until his death in 1964. Gene later married Frank Lewis Thompson who also preceded her in death.Gene was a member of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church and The Assembly. She will be remembered for her devotion as a loving and caring wife, mother, and as “Mama Gene” to four grandchildren and six great grandchildren.The family gratefully acknowledges and appreciates the care she received from her devoted staff, and for “Kiddo” who lovingly and faithfully remained by her side.Gene is survived by her three children, Marsland Moncrief and her husband, Dick, Katherine Miller and her husband David, and Raymond E. Buck, III; grandchildren, Wesley Moncrief and wife, Christie, Georgina Moncrief Condrey and her husband, Cliff, Marguerite Miller Johnson and her husband, Chris, and Christina Miller; great grandchildren, Victor, Haralson and Marsland Condrey, Kate and Gray Johnson, and Marguerite Moncrief; sister and brother in law, Kaye and Roy McDermott.
