Obituary of Jacob Leonard Pouttu

Jacob Pouttu passed away on Thursday, July 27th, 2017. He was born in Northern Michigan, in Ewen in Ontonagan County, on February 22, 1937. As a young man, he joined the U.S. Coast Guard at the age of 17. He served in Japan and later on the Great Lakes on the Mackinac ice breaker until he left the Coast Guard in 1958. Later he joined the U.S. Postal service where he worked until he retired.In addition to loving his family, he was an accomplished carpenter and woodworker. He was handy with a wrench and could fix just about anything that got in his way. He enjoyed painting and sketching, the Texas Rangers, reading, and doing crossword puzzles. He will be remembered for his sharp and intelligent sense of humor, which he kept for his entire life.He is survived by his wife Gail, who he met on a blind date in 1958. They married in 1959 in Cleveland, Ohio. In 1970 he moved his young family to Fort Worth, Texas where he remained with the Postal Service and continued the rewarding work of raising his family.He will be missed by his 5 children and their spouses: Kirk and Janie Pouttu, Mark and Toni Pouttu, Kristin and Ronald Anderson, Tricia and Joel Davenport, and Missy and Doug Doskocil; twelve grandchildren who will miss their “Silly Papa”, Ellen and Joseph Pouttu, Jacob and Andrew Pouttu, Lucas and Kyle Anderson, Mary Kate and Jennifer Davenport, and Henry, Sam, Sara, and Lily Doskocil. He is also survived by his siblings, Evelyn Harrold, Arthur Pouttu, Hazel and John Johnson and all of their family members along with sisters in law, Donna Davis and Sharon Doskocil, and brother in law, Gary Doskocil and his wife Veronica Doskocil, and all of their family members.He will also be missed by his church family at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church in Fort Worth, Texas.
