Obituary of Carole Jean Robinson Bertel
Carole Jean Bertel, 83, passed peacefully from this life into the Kingdom of Heaven on January 29, 2018, surrounded by her loving family, caretakers and friends. Carole passed at her home in Fort Worth, Texas, following complications from a recent fall and hip replacement.Carole, born in St. Louis, Missouri on July 2, 1934, was the daughter of Robert W. and Dorothy Robinson and lived in rural Missouri near Irondale, from a young age during and after World War II. Carole was preceded in death by her sister, Joanne Robinson, their parents and her husband.As a high school senior, Carole met the love of her life, Donald Bertel, a young railroad surveyor with a penchant for motorcycles. After high school graduation where Carole was Valedictorian, they were married on November 29, 1952 in Irondale, Missouri. Following their marriage, Carole and Don moved to Poplar Bluff, Missouri, the first of over 20 relocations that the couple would undertake across the U.S. during Don’s railroading career. Carole and Don welcomed their first child, Richard in December 1953, and later a second son Ronald, in November 1956, followed by a daughter, Donna in March 1961. The family traveled widely and enjoyed countless hours pursuing culinary delights across the U.S. Carole was an excellent homemaker and involved in all her children’s endeavors and interests.A devoted Christian, Carole raised her children to believe in God and to put others before themselves. She traveled to the Holy Lands in the early 1970’s and belonged to various church service groups and organizations wherever the family would move.Carole lived in the Fort Worth Texas area several times and she and Don retired to the Aledo/Hudson Oaks communities in the late 1990’s. Upon Don’s passing in 2006, Carole and her mother Dorothy moved to Eagle, Idaho to be close to her daughter Donna. Carole returned to Fort Worth in 2015 where she lived until her death.The family would like to express our most heartfelt appreciation to the caregivers and hospice staff and professionals at Assisted Services, and Professional Caretakers, both from Fort Worth, Texas, who so tenderly cared for our beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother during her final days and hours. Of special note is Sharon Ogan, Jenny Maayeh and Terry Netter. Their love and attention for Carole will never be forgotten.She is survived by her daughter, Donna Barker and husband, Joel, Eagle, Idaho; son Richard Bertel and wife, Connie, Fort Worth, Texas, and son, Ronald Bertel and wife, Melissa, of Colleyville, Texas; grandchildren include Christopher Bertel and wife, Wendy, Keller, Texas, Jeffrey Barker and wife, Laura, Boise, Idaho, Christopher Barker and wife, Joy, Tulsa, Oklahoma, Courtney Smith and husband, Brian, Weatherford, Texas, Robert Bertel, Colleyville, Texas and Rhonda Daniel, Vernon, Texas; great grandchildren include Cade and Brek Bertel, Keller, Texas, Dalton Daniel, Vernon, Texas and Colt Smith, Weatherford, Texas. Carole will be truly missed by her loving family and many friends.
