Obituary of Alice Roberta McCart Walters

Alice “Bert” Walters died peacefully in her sleep December 11, 2021.Born May25, 1932, she attended Arlington Heights High School, Hockaday and the University of Texas earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Art.Keeping with her love of art, she was an avid collector, preserver and patron of the arts, an active participant of the cultural/art scene of the 1970’s. She owned Latch String Gallery, where she cultivated her friends and family into the love of art. She was also a member of the Junior League of Fort Worth.After her historic McCart family home was unexpectedly demolished, she was driven to preserve historic properties and architecture. She headed to the Fort Worth Stockyards and fell in love with the brick arches of the Longhorn Saloon. While purchasing the property, she realized she needed parking space and enlisted Steve Murrin as her partner.With her husband, Leon, they renovated the buildings that now house Red’s Longhorn Bar, White Elephant Saloon, Star Café, Miss Molly’s, Cantina Cadillac, Cadillac Hotel and Lonesome Dove.Bert was preceded in death by her husband, Leon Walters.She is survived by her loving daughter, Roberta “Robi” McAllister, Bryan and Cynthia Walters, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, cousins and close friends.
