Obituary of Maurine Frances Shields Wilson

Maurine Frances Shields Wilson, 99, passed away at her home on January 13, 2018.Maurine was born May 10, 1918, in Enid, OK, to Dr. & Mrs. Herbert B. Shields. Shortly after birth she and her mother successfully battled the Spanish Flu.Maurine attended Enid’s public schools with the goal of attending all twelve grades without being absent or tardy, despite having to walk over a mile each way. Her goal was almost achieved until Christmas of her senior year, when a broken leg unfortunately foiled her plan. Undaunted, she still managed to graduate top of her class. She attended Phillips University in Enid for two years, then graduated from Oklahoma University with a B.S. degree in 1939.Maurine met the love of her life, Jack Ewing Wilson, at an 8th grade debate contest. They later married September 10, 1943. Her plans to have a career in chemistry changed when the Enid Superintendent of Schools called and asked her to teach science, as their last science teacher had just been drafted for war duty. She taught four years.Jack spent WWII stationed overseas in Kunming, China, as a Statistical Control Officer, an elite, newly-formed category of the Army Air Force.After the war they lived in Oklahoma City where Jack practiced law until 1973, at which time he was appointed a Federal Administrative Law judge to be stationed in Fort Worth, TX. He loved being a judge until his death in 1986.Maurine loved entertaining, and her home was open to many dinners for Ridglea Garden Club, Ridglea Hills Sunday night suppers, Church circle luncheons, and P.E.O. meetings.Maurine served her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and lived life looking forward to spending eternity with Him. She was always a conservative Presbyterian. She loved her church family and especially enjoyed the Maj-Jo Sunday School class under the tutelage of two wonderful teachers, Steve Brotherton and John Thompson.Survivors: She leaves behind her beloved son, Timothy Wilson; her loving daughter and best friend, Jan Wilson; adored grandson, Sean Cisco and wife, Yana; great-granddaughters, Natalie and Danielle; many cherished nieces and nephews; and, a host of very dear friends.“May God bless you until we meet again.”
