Obituary of Betty Jo Horton Pate

Betty Jo Horton Pate, 94, passed away peacefully in her home Friday morning on March 26, 2021 shortly after visits with her family and telephone calls from relatives and friends in other states.Betty Jo was born July 1, 1926 to Ethel Nicholson Horton and Leonard Floyd Horton and raised in Charlotte, North Carolina. Soon after graduating from Queens College and Geyer Business College in Charlotte, North Carolina, Betty Jo worked for several years at a church in Charlotte. She then embarked on an adventure by moving to New York City where she worked for six years. At a NYC party, Betty Jo met “the only gentlemen at the party” – her future husband from Texas, Sebert L. Pate.Her 42 years of marriage to Sebert brought years of joy through family, common interests in community involvement, supporting favorite charitable organizations and schools, and travel. Betty Jo particularly enjoyed entertaining friends and family and was most in her element at social gatherings.She was a devoted member of the First United Methodist Church and later University Christian Church. Betty Jo was a member of the Woman’s Club, Fort Worth Garden Club, Fort Worth Lecture Foundation, Jewell Charity Ball, Friends of Van Cliburn Foundation, Cook- Fort Worth Children’s Medical Center, Fort Worth Symphony League, Fort Worth Ballet Guild, Arts Council of Fort Worth, Fort Worth Opera Association and TCU Fine Arts.Betty Jo is survived by her daughters, Kathleen Pate Brown and Susan Pate Ulrich (Max); seven grandchildren, Michael Brown (Rebecca), Hunter Brown, Charlie Brown, Nicolaus Ulrich, Keely Ulrich McDonald (Scott), Kyle Colin Ulrich, Sebert Ulrich; four great grandchildren; sister, Peggy Adickes and numerous much-loved nieces and nephews.The family is grateful for the many years of devotion from caretakers Maria Ruiz, Irma Cano, Janice Alexander, Nadine Craig and Luz Alverez.
