Obituary of Steve Willard McCully
“Big” Steve McCully joined his parents Mary and Willard in the home of God on February 3, 2023.
Born in St. Joseph, Missouri, on December 12 of 1958, Steve made a home for himself in Fort Worth where he spent 18 years as a funeral director. With a personality as grand as his stature, he spent his later years working personally and professionally to inspire those in recovery from drug and alcohol addiction.
A passionately frustrated supporter of the Dallas Cowboys and Texas Rangers, Steve’s interests in sports and music never detracted from his true loves: God, family, friends, and the service of those in search of a better way of life. He was a founding member of a recovery support group that has met every Monday on Las Vegas Trail for over 3 years, as well as a dedicated member of one of the oldest recovery groups in Fort Worth and a frequent participant of a weekly Bible study consisting of close friends. His shoes will not be easy to fill, either literally or figuratively.
Steve is survived by his older brothers, Gary and Charles McCully, and their wives Nancy and Constance. He leaves behind nephews, Justin, Shawn and Ryan; nieces, Erin and Merry; great nephew, Lincoln McCully; and great niece, Ella Carpenter; and one contentedly portly feline named Winifred.
Steve’s service will be held at Ridglea Christian Church on Wednesday, February 8, 2023 at 11AM with visitation beginning one hour prior.
Due to Steve’s volunteer work with the organization, Steve’s family is welcoming donations to The Salvation Army ARC in Fort Worth in his name.
