Obituary of Adalyn Harwell Montgomery
Fort Worth - Adalyn “Lynn” Harwell Montgomery sadly and suddenly passed away Friday, February 17, 2023 at the remarkable age of 97.
Adalyn “Lynn” was born in Bynum, Texas August 18, 1925. During WW II, Lynn moved to Dallas and met her future husband, Samuel Albert Montgomery III, when he had a business appointment at her place of employment. Married in 1947, they were in love for 50 years until Sam's passing in 1997.
During that time Lynn and Sam had 3 children, Steven Michael (who did not survive a premature birth) Samuel Albert Montgomery IV and Melinda Gay Montgomery. In the early 60's, "Big Sam's" employer transferred him and the family to Caracas, Venezuela (South America) where they lived for several years.
After returning to Texas in the mid-60's and settling in East Side Fort Worth, Lynn worked for the Adult Education Center in Fort Worth as a secretary to the director for over 30 years. She was a loyal member of the First Presbyterian Church for 70 years. Lynn and Sam joined the church not long after Dr. Robert F. Jones performed their marriage ceremony when the church was on Taylor Street.
Strong, generous and caring, Lynn will always be remembered and cherished by her son, Sam Montgomery IV and his wife Irma, daughter Melinda Gay Montgomery, grandson Micah Montgomery, granddaughter Magan Crawford and her husband Matt, 5 great-grandchildren, niece and nephew Shelley Gingras and Bill Gamm, several loved family members and many close friends and neighbors.
Lynn was proceeded in death by her husband, Samuel Albert Montgomery III, sibling James Shelby Harwell, parents Myrtle and William Shelby Harwell and firstborn son Steven Michael.
Memorial Service: 1:00 p.m. Thursday, March 2, 2023 in the Chapel at First Presbyterian Church, 1000 Penn Street, Fort Worth. Reception to follow in the church parlor..
