Obituary of Joanne Elizabeth Schmidt
Joanne Elizabeth Schmidt, 94, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on Friday, October 13, 2023.
Service: 10:30 am Friday, Holy Family Catholic Church, 6150 Pershing Ave, Fort Worth, TX 76107
Interment: Private at a later date, in the Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery.
Joanne was born on October 2, 1929, in Cuba City, Wisconsin to Esther M. and Basil J. Faherty.
She attended The College of St. Scholastica in Duluth, MN. In the early 50’s she met her husband, Howard, and they married in April 1954. Together they had three children. Joanne was a talented soprano, singing in many operas, musicals and Church Choirs from Biloxi to Jackson MS, Fort Worth, Austin and Arlington Texas. When they first moved to Fort Worth, in the 60’s she joined Holy Family Church, and sang in the choir for many years.
Joanne was the president of the Euterpean Music Club of Fort Worth from 1991-1993 and was a member of the E. Clyde Witlock Music Club, Sigma Alpha Lota Fraternity for Woman, Manchester Singers and also supported the Van Cliburn Piano Competition, She sang in many church choirs, St. Ignatius Martyr in Austin and St. Matthews in Arlington.
Joanne was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, cooking, traveling and sailing.
Joanne was preceded in death by her husband and her grandson, Kyle Kilgore.
Survivors: Children, Cathryn Schmidt, Emily Potter and her husband James, and Joseph Schmidt and his wife Vida. Grandchildren, Charlie Kilgore and his wife Amanda, Tyleese Bishop and her husband Clay, Christian Potter, Kaitlyn Potter, Michael Potter, Elaine Cook and her husband Anthony, and Phillip Schmidt; four great-grandchildren; and a host of extended family and friends.
