Obituary of Edwin Hixson Eigenbrodt

Edwin Hixson Eigenbrodt, MD, age 91, of Fort Worth, Texas, passed away June 12, 2024.

Funeral Service: 10:00 a.m. Thursday, June 20, 2024 at Christ Church Plano Chapel with Rev Canon John Battey officiating. After a short visitation following the service, the Burial will follow at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 1413 E. Irving Blvd at Sixth St, Irving, Texas.

Edwin Hixson Eigenbrodt was born in Naperville, IL, to Dr. Harold John Eigenbrodt and Mildred Geneva Hixson Eigenbrodt on March 21, 1933. After graduating from Naperville High School and North Central College in Naperville, Edwin went on to University of Chicago Medical School graduating in 1959 and then began a surgery residency there. He transferred to California with his surgical faculty as a resident and followed this with a pathology residency at Stanford. He joined the faculty at the UTSW Medical School Department of Pathology where he spent most of his professional career teaching pathology and earning national recognition for his research into liver and kidney disease. In 2023, he was recognized as one of the favorite professors by a UTSW Medical School class he had taught years before.

In addition to a deep Christian faith, he was an avid fisherman, musician, tennis player, artist, photographer, chef, and true friend.

Ed is survived by his wife, Marsha Richardson Eigenbrodt of Fort Worth, Texas; sons, Stanton Paul Eigenbrodt and his wife Mary of Richardson, Texas, Edwin Parker Eigenbrodt and his wife Julia of Mason, Ohio; and four grandchildren, William, Anne, Stella, and Kieran Eigenbrodt, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Dr. H. John Eigenbrodt, and his first wife Jane Washburn Eigenbrodt.
