Obituary of Phillip Burns Hayter

Phillip Burns Hayter

July 9, 1957 to June 27, 2024

Phillip Burns Hayter, 66, died peacefully on Thursday, June 27th, at a Fort Worth hospital. Phil suffered from several illnesses during the last few years, but still maintained many friendships and exhibited amazing recall of events, dates, and even what the weather was like on those landmark dates that most of us could not remember.

Phil grew up attending Fort Worth Schools, and cultivated a consuming interest in golf at Paschal High School. Guitar building, playing, and repairing was a secondary interest, along with Ham Radio operation. Through his focus on golf and guitars, and his college experiences at the University of Texas and TCU, Phil never met a stranger, and counted so many as lifelong friends. He was able to endear himself as a great listener, and engaged in brilliant and often memorable insights with those friends. As he would often say, “Well, it is what it is!”

Phil worked in many career capacities—Auto Glass Installation, Insurance, Golf Course Management, and served as a Oil & Gas Landman. He diligently responded as a caregiver for his parents, Shirley and Bill Hayter, who predeceased him.

Phil is survived by his cousin, Linda Jones and her husband, Phil Jones, and a host of schoolmates, guitar players, Oil & Gas Executives, Investment Advisors, Mortgage & Title Executives, Attorneys, golfers, and Ministers.

In memory of the life of Phil Hayter, a charity that was close to Phil’s heart is accepting donations in lieu of flowers:
