Roy Emerson Falls, born on June 27, 1920, in Roxton, Tx, passed peacefully into the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ at the age of 104. A man of remarkable character, Roy lived a life of unwavering faith, service and dedication to God, his family and his country.
A proud veteran of World War II, Roy served four years in the United States Army from October 1941 to November 1945. He served in both the Atlantic and Pacific, exemplifying courage and patriotism in a time of global conflict. Roy worked at the Fort Worth Star Telegram as a printer and retired after 40 years.
At a young age, Roy gave his heart to Christ, and that commitment guided him throughout his life. In 1936, when he was just 16, his mother came home from a tent revival and said "We're moving to Fort Worth Tx. and become members of that church. That church was The First Baptist Church of Fort Worth, under the auspices of Dr. J. Frank Norris, where dad eventually taught Sunday School. There, Roy met his wife Eula, and together they led a life of dedication and commitment to the Lord. When Dr. Norris died in 1952, Roy and Eula spent the next 20 years helping small Independent Baptist Churches grow, That meant driving the bus to pick up children for Sunday School, teaching, song leading, adding on a new Sunday School room, Tuesday eveningknocking on doors to invite people to come to church ... and cleaning/mowing. Around 1972 Roy decided to pastor his own church ... Faith Baptist in Euless, Tx., .... ending up in Granbury, Tx. where he started anew, from the ground up.
Roy's deep humility, education and thirst for knowledge were constants throughout his life. A 'lifelong student' of the scriptures, he approached God's Word with reverence and deep understanding. He was a mentor to many and a great conversationalist, always ready to share his insights or lend a listening ear.
In 1974, Roy wrote a biography of his mentor, Dr. J. Frank Norris, who had a profound, lifelong impact on Roy's life. Roy's love for writing and dedication to sharing his knowledge resulted in several other works that will continue to leave a lasting legacy.
Roy was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Eula Falls; his brother Lloyd Falls and wife, Nell; his sister, Marie Box and husband, Ernest; and sister Velma Martin and husband Robert Martin. He is survived by his children: daughter, Gail Hawkins; son, Ron Falls and wife Stephanie Falls. Roy also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren, Jere' Capps, Christopher Falls and Matthew Falls; as well as great-grandchildren, Ashleigh Capps and Rylie Capps; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Roy will be deeply missed by his family and friends, all who will forever cherish the spiritual guidance, wisdom and love he provided throughout his long 104 years.
