Obituary of Nancy Ellen Benfer
Nancy Benfer, beloved wife, mother and Nana, passed away on Monday, November 25, 2024 after a three year battle with cancer. She was 71 years old.
Mass of Christian Burial: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, December 5, 2024 at Holy Family Catholic Church, 6150 Pershing Avenue, Fort Worth, Texas. Visitation with the family and friends will start one hour before the Mass.
Interment will follow at Greenwood Memorial Park.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Memphis, TN.
Nancy grew up in a career military family and attended different schools in different states according to her Father's military assignments. She finished high school in San Antonio and went on to graduate from Texas Woman's University in Denton where she earned a bachelor's degree in Health Information Management. She successfully passed two certification exams through the American Health Information Management Association to earn the professional credentials of Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) and Certified Coding Specialist (CCS). She was employed at Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Fort Worth for 37 years after working with many wonderful people.
Nancy is survived by her husband of 50 years, Oliver Benfer, son, Todd Benfer (Mindy), daughter, Kellie Medeiros (Jansen) and three beautiful granddaughters who gave her great joy: Drew Medeiros, Valerie Medeiros, and Ella Benfer. Other survivors include her two sisters, Jean Pike (Robert) and Janice Richter (Jim) and brother-in-law Wayne Collie and three nieces and three nephews.
Nancy and Oliver met on a blind date and married May 25, 1974 in San Antonio. They were blessed with a son, Todd, and a daughter, Kellie, who have given them much joy over the years. Nancy loved to work in her yard, cook, sew and was an avid book reader. Nancy and Oliver have been members of Holy Family Church since the late 1970's. Nancy served as a Eucharistic Minister, offertory counter, volunteer at West Aid and an usher at the Bass Hall until her illness prevented these activities.
Nancy is preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Ernestine Moix, and sister, Mary Collie.
