Obituary of Bobbie Ellen Roberts
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Bobbie Ellen “Wood” Roberts. She died peacefully in her home on February 19, 2025, in Fort Worth, Texas after a beautiful 88 years of life. She was affectionately referred to as Mom, Gammie and Gaga.
Bobbie was born in Taylor Texas, on December 25, 1936 to Franklin Pierce Wood Jr. and Esther Reynolds Smith. She often referred to her father as “Gandy,” and Esther, her mother, as “Mimi.” She also enjoyed a beloved relationship with bonus parents, Lou Dell Liston Wood, “Mama Loudie” and Ernest Frederick Smith, “Daddy Ernest”. She had two sisters, Susie Jones and Cindy Pruitt, who she dearly loved and shared inseparable bonds with.
She grew up in Marshall, Texas and attended Marshall High. She later attended North Texas University where she earned her Degree in Education. While attending North Texas she enjoyed her membership in the Alpha Phi sorority.
She would later meet the love of her life, Jerry Clyde Roberts, and married in 1959. They had two daughters, Kim and Kelly, and took great joy in raising their family in Richardson and Fort Worth, Texas.
Bobbie should be remembered as a marvelous matriarch to her family, a fabulous friend, and loyal confidant. Bobbie was a passionate educator and taught kindergarten in Fort Worth, in which she shaped and molded lots of little lives over the course of her career. She was a woman of many talents, probably most well known for her culinary creations. Baking was her love language and you never left her home hungry. You may have even seen her on the T.V. show Good Morning Texas for her competition winning Pumpecan Pie! She thoroughly enjoyed entertaining and would have her table “set” for days before guests would arrive. When it was her turn to host book club, members could expect a fully themed meal and décor to boot. She loved knitting, needlepoint and crocheting and created many beautiful pieces over the years. She was musically inclined, a great dancer, and proudly performed in a traveling trio in which she sang as an alto for troops during the Vietnam War. She was a very talented pianist and could play absolutely anything by ear, never having had any formal training. She loved playing as much as we loved listening to her play. She was a Master Gardener and lovingly referred to flowers and plants as people with leaves. Let us not forget her love of animals. She raised Kim and Kelly with every animal imaginable, skunks included! She was a member of Provarsu, a club within The Women’s Club of Fort Worth, and also enjoyed being a member of several book clubs. She had a spicy, spunky personality and was a tell it like it is gal. She enjoyed a good Chardonnay and would frequently be heard exclaiming, “Well, it’s 5:00 somewhere.”
Family was EVERYTHING to her. She loved spending time with her family more than anything in the world! She was everything to us as well and will be missed, dearly.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Jerry Clyde Roberts, and her parents, Franklin Pierce Wood Jr. and Esther Reynolds Smith, and Lou Dell Liston Wood and Ernest Frederick Smith.
She is survived by her daughters, Kim Hein, Kelly Johnson and spouse Stephen Johnson; grandchildren, Lindsey Hein, Greg Hein and spouse Bea Hein, Nicole Johnson; and great granddaughter, Olivia Hein, who is on the way; sisters, Cindy Pruitt and spouse Lloyd Pruitt, and their son, Ash Alldredge, Susie Jones and spouse Dana Jones, and their daughter, Kelly Stover and spouse Ryan Stover.
The family would like to thank the staff of LC. Specialized Homecare for all the incredible love and care shown to Bobbie over the last few years.
A service at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery and a Celebration of Life will both be scheduled at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to Cook Children’s Hospital or a charity of your choice.
