Obituary of Lana Hall Shelton

Lana Hall Shelton, 64, of Colleyville, Texas, went home to be with the Lord on February 25th, 2025. The sudden passing of such a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend has left a painful void in all who loved her, yet we take great comfort in knowing she is filled with everlasting joy in the presence of her Savior.

Lana was born on December 28th, 1960, in Jasper, Texas to Don and Joann (Taylor) Hall. An immediate source of joy to her family, she quickly acquired numerous nicknames, “Lana banana” being one that stood out the most. She was raised in Jasper her entire childhood along with her dear sisters, Lee Ann (Hall) Douglas and Laurie (Hall) Havard. Their family faithfully attended Jasper Church of Christ where Lana’s love for the Lord began to grow. Her love of singing – thanks in large part to the excellent voices of her parents – also began to grow, and she would joyfully use this God-given gift throughout her life. This gift – and many others – were recognized throughout her life, starting at an early age: Lana won the Little Miss Jasper beauty pageant at age five, followed by the Miss Jasper beauty pageant at age 17, the first to win both. She competed in many others, culminating with the  Miss Texas beauty pageant in 1981.

After graduating from Jasper High School in 1979, Lana followed in the footsteps of her parents and sisters to attend college at Abilene Christian University, where she majored in Marketing. There she would soon meet and begin dating Keith Shelton of Kingwood, Texas. Lana was a member of the women’s social club GATA, and she participated in many musical performances, most notably as the female lead in the musical South Pacific, as well as the co-host of ACU’s annual Sing Song competition. Keith and Lana would marry after their senior year on August 20th, 1983, in Jasper.

They would soon after put down roots in North Texas, most notably Colleyville, where they would raise their four children: Savannah, Sam, Sunny, and Scott. Lana joyfully took on the role of homemaker and loved every aspect of motherhood. She and Keith faithfully shepherded their children to love and serve the Lord and demonstrated their faith in numerous ways: as faithful members of The Hills Church in North Richland Hills; by frequently opening their home to numerous families and friends for extended periods; and by taking several trips overseas to support various missionary efforts, including to Africa. Lana employed her gift of singing for many years on The Hills praise team, where she took great joy helping lead the congregation in worship.

Lana was an equally devoted grandmother to her six grandkids: Emma, Luke, Kennedy, Eli, Graham, and Stellan. She made every effort to attend each birthday party, recital, sports game, and impromptu family dinner, often showing up with a new toy – just because. Being a grandmother was truly one of the great joys of her life, and she cherished every moment spent with her grandkids.

The week preceding Lana’s stroke on Sunday, February 2nd, was filled with joy. She helped host a baby shower for a dear friend’s daughter, something she and many friends from The Hills had done so many times before. She spent time with each of her grandkids, showering them with love as she always did. She attended a friend’s birthday party, where she reunited with many of her most cherished friends from college. And lastly, but most beautifully, Lana’s last moments before her stroke were spent at church, praying fervently for earthly healing for a friend – a prayer that was wonderfully answered.

While Lana’s family, friends, and all who knew her grieve her passing deeply, we are filled with joy knowing her faith has been turned to sight; that she is fully and forever healed in the arms of Jesus, and that we will see her again.

Lana is preceded in death by her parents, Don and Joann Hall. She is survived by Keith, her loving husband of 41 years; her children and their spouses, Savannah and Michael McCully and their boys, Luke (8) and Eli (4); Sam and Staci Shelton and their children, Emma (9), Kennedy (5) and Graham (3); Sunny and Shawn Simmons and their son, Stellan (4 months); and Scott and Abi Shelton. She is also survived by her sisters, Lee Ann Douglas, and Laurie Havard.

Visitation and Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday March 8th, 2025, at The Hills Church located at 6300 NE Loop 820, North Richland Hills, Texas 76180. The visitation will be from 9:30 – 10:30am, followed by a celebration of life from 10:30am – 12:00pm.

“For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:38-39.
