Obituary of Judith Ann Chaney

Judith Ann Chaney, 77, died Sunday, July 7, 2019 at her home in Plano, Texas.Judith Ann Chaney was born November 24, 1941 in Saltillo, Texas. The second of three sisters, she was a happy, mild-mannered child with an agreeable nature, quick to forgive, and generous to a fault. Being in a military family, she moved extensively during her school years from San Antonio to Colorado, to Florida, and then to the Philippines, she graduated from high school in 1960 and attended University of the Philippines and Texas Wesleyan University after moving back to the States. She married in 1965 to Carl Glenn Hood and began to raise 2 boys, David and Blake. Though eventually divorcing, she met Roy Charles Chaney, whom she would marry in July 1982. Judy and Roy were married for 32 years until his passing on February 15, 2014. Together they enjoyed their time raising the boys – David, Bill, Blake, Bob, and Thomas, participating and volunteering at the church; spending time with family and especially their grandchildren – Skyler, Alec, Michael, Austin, Kadence, Vivienne, Davis, Jackson, and Zachary.Judy was a loving mother, faithful churchgoer, a unifier in relationships, a giver and an artistically-talented volunteer who repaired and restored large religious statues at her own time and expense. She trained altar servers alongside Roy, donated untold numbers of personalized ceramic ware, religious articles, made countless rosaries to donate, sewed gowns for nursing home patients, and created garments for young nieces, crafted numerous large needlepoint projects for family, gifting these items which had required years to complete. Later in life, she enjoyed compiling genealogy records which she shared with family members, successfully reuniting long-lost relatives and bringing comfort to many who did not know their roots. She also served as caregiver to Roy’s parents, her mother and several extended family members in their last days.She is survived by her sons, David Hood, William Chaney and wife, Lori, Blake Hood and wife, Susan, Robert Chaney and wife, Lisa, Thomas Chaney; nine grandchildren; sister, Dana Powell; Glenn Hood, father of David and Blake Hood; and extended family members.
