Obituary of Grace Elizabeth Halbert Burr
Grace Elizabeth Halbert Burr passed peacefully into the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on May 31, 2021, two weeks after her 100th birthday.Grace was born on May 13, 1921 in Chicago, IL to Gladys and Jay C. Halbert. She grew up in Fort Worth, TX attending Lily B. Clayton and Paschal High School. She was a loving sister to Bernice, an active volunteer at Broadway Baptist Church, and a graduate of Baylor University – class of 1942. Gigi married H.B. Burr during his early military career in 1942 and moved with him on many deployments. She proudly loved and cared for H.B. and her two boys while also participating in the Fort Worth Junior Woman’s Club, founding the Creative Arts group. She was an active and passionate member of the Contemporary Handweavers of Texas. She blessed many family and friends with her creativity – cooking, sewing, weaving, piano playing, silk-screen printing and countless other creative hobbies.She was an avid outdoors woman, and enjoyed camping, fishing, and skiing in Colorado. She loved creating a second home in Breckenridge, CO and continued to ski into her eighties. Grace volunteered in the Christ Chapel Bible Church nursery for over a decade and treasured the friendships she made there.Grace is survived by her son Buddy Burr and daughter-in-law Susan, and Jaymes Burr and daughter-in-law Kathy, along with grandchildren: Kristen Burr Powell and Jim Powell, Michael Burr and Kara Burr, Katie Burr Steel and great-grandchildren Jack, Thomas, Andrew, and Jane Powell, and Karoline, Kennedy, and Harrison Burr.Grace is cherished in our memories and hearts for her faith, her cheerful kindness, bright and inquisitive mind, her generous spirit, endless energy, creativity, and her love of family. We treasure the countless hours spent with Gigi playing all kinds of card games and board games. She will always be remembered as a gift giver, a craftswoman, a lover of fashion and beauty, a willing and talented partner for any project, and a sweet cheerful heart.
