Obituary of Carol Ann Szatkowski Carlson
Carol Ann Szatkowski Carlson, 75, passed away peacefully on September 17, 2018.Carol was the eldest child born to Daniel and Mary Skiba Szatkowski on March 16, 1943, in Hartford, CT. She attended St. Mary’s Catholic School and graduated from East Hartford High School in 1961. Carol attended the Hartford Hospital School of Nursing and graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1964. She then began her nursing career in the Hartford Hospital Neurological ICU.In November 1967, Carol met the love of her life, Roy Carlson at her brother Daniel’s wedding to Jennifer Hoye in England. Following their marriage on March 23, 1968, at St. Isaac Jogues Catholic Church in East Hartford, CT, they resided in Henlow, Bedfordshire, England where Roy was stationed at RAF Chicksands. Roy’s next assignment with the USAF was to Key West, FL, where, after 10 years of service to his country, he was honorably discharged from the USAF and they returned to his home in Des Plaines, IL. During their time there, Carol continued her nursing career with the Four Seasons Nursing Homes.Transferring to Dallas in 1980, they resided in The Colony, TX. Carol received a transfer with the Four Seasons Nursing Home and eventually became a Director of Nursing at their Boulevard facility, eventually being promoted to the Nurse Consultant position for their statewide facilities. In 1999, Carol accepted an administrative position with the Healthcare Computer Corporation as their senior technical writer, retiring in 2008.Through the years, Carol and Roy rescued many dogs and lovingly raised them. At the time of her death, Carol had three furry friends, Wally, Peanut and Rufus.Carol was preceded in death by her parents, beloved husband, Roy, and niece, Carolynn Szatkowski.The family would like to thank the medical professionals who cared for her at Baylor Scott & White Hospital (Carrollton), Texas Health Huguley Hospital (Fort Worth), UT Southwestern Medical Center (Dallas), Huguley Nursing and Rehab Center and Community Hospice of Texas. Survivors: Brothers, Daniel Szatkowski (Jennifer) of Burleson, TX, John Szatkowski of Clinton, CT; nephew, David Szatkowski (Becky); great niece, Jordan Szatkowski; great nephew, Sean Szatkowski; sister-in-law, Marcia Splinter (John); and brother-in-law, John Carlson (Gayle).
