Obituary of Francis L. Hurst

Francis Levi Hurst, affectionately known as “Buddy” by all his friends, was brought home peacefully to God’s eternal Kingdom on Monday, September 21, 2020, with all four of his children at his side. Selfless, is the one word that best describes the character of Buddy in his interactions with family, friends, neighbors, and community organizations. Buddy was widely known for his selflessness; a character trait exhibited by his willingness to do anything for anyone at any time, always putting the emotional and material needs of others before himself, and most importantly, making sure everyone knew they were loved by him. Buddy was also known by his family and friends as having a great sense of humor, being a devout parishioner at St. Andrews Catholic Church for over 50 years, and of course, being a proud life-long supporter of the purple and white, TCU Horned Frogs. Buddy was born on September 4, 1930, in Memphis, Tennessee to the parents of Irene and FC Hurst; he later moved to Gloucester, Massachusetts during his late childhood and early teenage years. While attending Gloucester High School, he met the future love of his life, Theresa Mary Wagner. After serving in the U.S. Navy on the destroyer escort, the U.S.S. Bowers, he returned to Gloucester, and eventually wed his high school sweetheart on June 25, 1955, at Our Lady of Good Voyage Catholic Church. The newlyweds subsequently moved to Fort Worth, Texas, and started their careers and family. Buddy graduated with a BA in Social Sciences from TCU in 1963. He had an illustrious 44-year career at Texas Electric Service Company (now TXU), where Buddy was recognized for his excellence in sales, customer service, and leadership as Regional Supervisor of the Claims Department. Buddy loved supporting his community; he served as President of the Fort Worth Kiwanis Club, enjoyed being an active member of Meals on Wheels, and was an avid Horned Frog booster and season ticket holder for his entire life. Buddy was a committed husband and father; he faithfully loved his wife Theresa of 36 years, as well as his four children and their spouses, three grandchildren, and newest great-grandson. Buddy was fortunate to find the second love of his life, Judy House. He loved Judy, her two children and her four grandchildren. Buddy was preceded in death by his loving wife of 36 years, Theresa Mary Hurst. He is survived by his four children: Susan Theresa Hurst, Michael Francis Hurst, David Christopher Hurst and wife, RayAnn Hurst, John Patrick Hurst and wife, Laura Hurst. Buddy is also survived by his three grandchildren: Emily Theresa Braly and husband, Ford Braly, Benjamin David Hurst, and Margaret Isabel Hurst. Buddy was recently blessed with the newest addition to his surviving family, his great-grandson, Clifford Braly V.
