Obituary of Jan Marie Burns

Jan Marie Burns born June 28, 1937 in Fort Worth, Texas to James and Rachael Burns.Jan had a colorful life. She had extraordinary faith. Jan was a Sister of St. Mary of Namur and served at St. James in Dallas. She was one of the few if only to own/ride two Honda Motorcycles. Jan was a life-long educator and taught both in the Fort Worth Catholic Diocese as well as in Fort Worth ISD, where she taught ESL and other subjects. She loved learning as much as she loved teaching. She was beloved by her many students over the years.Jan was not one to sit still. She always loved adventures and was truly present in every moment. Jan greatly enjoyed yoga, bicycling, walking and staying in good health. She loved being outside and gardening (In fact, she was the Yard of the Month recipient several times over). Jan also enjoyed volunteering for Meals-On-Wheels, attending the symphony, playing her organ (as well as the stock market!) knitting with her knitting club, and travelling with her cousin Paula. She was perhaps most importantly a voracious reader. After struggling for nearly 4 years with Stage 4 cancer, Jan passed on February 9, 2021 at her childhood home at the age of 83. She was loved by many and she will be sorely missed.Jan leaves behind her sister Mary Beth and brother-in-law Bill Otto, her nephew Joe Otto, her nieces, Peggy and Megan McGill, as well as her great nephews, Lucas Harrell and Joseph Edmonds.
