Obituary of Robert Connell Park

Robert Connell Park died peacefully at his home in Houston on Tuesday, February 13, 2018.Robert Connell Park was born on November 17, 1939 in Fort Worth, the son of Harriett “Hattie Bess” Wallace Park and Harry Morton Park, Sr. He was the grandson of Blanche Connell Young and Mr. and Mrs. R. W. Park, and the great grandson of W.E. and Hattie Connell. He was a 1957 graduate of Stephenville High School, attended William Jewell College, Liberty, MO., and earned a B.A. degree in History from Baylor University and an M.A. in Library Science from the University of Denver.During his lifelong career he worked as librarian at The Fort Worth Public Library; archivist of the Texas Collection at The Rosenberg Library, Galveston; medical librarian at St. Luke’s-Texas Children’s Hospital, Houston; retiring as librarian from the Dental Branch of UT Health Science Center in Houston. He was respected by the medical professionals and staff as well as his library colleagues, with whom he remained friends long after retirement.He enjoyed living in Houston and was a long time supporter of the arts. He particularly enjoyed the museums, theater, and his beloved Houston Symphony.He will be remembered for always having an amusing story or anecdote to delight his friends and for his New Year’s Day open house.He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother-in-law, Dr. Albert A. Lilly.He is survived by his brother, Harry Morton Park, Jr. and wife Margy; a sister, Mary Park Lilly; nieces Adrienne Park Long and husband John and Erinn Park Barefield and husband Jeremiah; and nephews Albert Artice Lilly III and Robert Park Lilly, great nieces and great nephews and many friends .
