Obituary of Horace W. Butts

Horace W. Butts, 96, passed away on January 15, 2018.Born March 5, 1921 in Fort Worth to Oliver J. and Marie Ward Butts, Horace graduated from Central High School and Texas Tech. He served in the US Army Air Corps during WW II. After graduation and military service, he worked in the family business, O. J. Butts Plumbing Company, until the early 80’s and then for different contractors before he retired in 1985. He was a Registered Professional Engineer, president of the Tarrant County and vice-president of the Texas P.H.C. Contractors Associations, and president of the Fort Worth Executives Association. He was also a member of the Lions Club, the Elks Club and enjoyed golfing and fishing. Together with his wife, Mary Alice, he enjoyed square dancing and they were members of various dance clubs. He was also proud of his involvement in the development and naming of the Quanah Parker Park.Family was important to Horace. He appreciated that all his family were in the local area and enjoyed spending time with them and relating stories of the history of Fort Worth and buildings throughout the city in which he worked.Horace was preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, Mary Alice.Survivors: Children, Teresa Miller (Tom), Dennis Butts (Sherry); grandchildren, Jason Miller (Rachael), Caitlin Eckel (Malcolm), Christopher Butts (Kelly), Ryan Butts (Ashley); great grandchildren, Ezra, Phaedra, Sylvie, Reagan and Rylee; and brother, O. J. Butts Jr. (Vivian); nephews and nieces.
