Obituary of Renita Sue Rogers Duncan
Renita Sue Rogers Duncan passed away on February 28, 2021 from age-related complications. Renita was born on April 15, 1925, in a log cabin in Dickson, Tennessee, the only child of Lester and Valli Rogers. Renita was a loving and encouraging wife and mother, “Other Mama” to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.She grew up in Nashville and attended Ward-Belmont College. At a Baptist Training Union meeting, she met Clarence Duncan Jr., and they married in October 1949 after a six-month courtship. Their son, David, was born two years later. In 1953, they moved to Atlanta, where Clarence worked for the new Southern Baptist Radio and Television Commission. In 1955, the year they moved with the Commission to Fort Worth, their daughter, Debbie, was born.Renita enjoyed traveling and playing Bridge. Most of all she loved being an active member of her church, University Baptist Church, for many years and Agape Baptist recently. Renita helped start and maintain UBC’s Benevolence House, providing clothing and household supplies for those in need.Preceded in death by her parents and husband, she is survived by her children, David Duncan and wife, Renee Mauzy, Debbie Birdwell and husband, Pat; grandchildren, Hunter and Morgan Duncan, Ashley Birdwell, Amanda Pate and husband, Jeff; great grandchildren, Presley and Grant Pate.
